Choosing the best IOL

Intraocular lenses

CHOOSE
THE BEST FOR YOU

Before your operation, your surgeon will review the intraocular lens (IOL) replacement options. They fall into two basic categories—monofocal (fixed focus) and multifocal lenses.

MONOFOCAL LENSES

With monofocal lenses, your vision is typically in focus
at only one distance: near or intermediate or far.

If you choose the IOL for distance vision correction, you will need reading glasses to improve your near vision. If you choose an IOL for near vision correction, you will need glasses to improve your distance vision.

Premium Single-Focal Lens Implants

The IQ Lens Implant, for patients without astigmatism, gives the best potential for quality vision, typically for distance only. The AcrySof IQ lens is a single-piece yellow acrylic IOL with a patented surface modification that treats spherical aberration and cataracts. While all currently available artificial lenses filter UV light, the AcrySof IQ lens implant filters both UV and blue light, which more closely mimics the abilities of a natural youthful lens.

The Toric Lens Implant, for cataract patients with astigmatism, corrects both conditions simultaneously. The lens incorporates an optical design that corrects for pre-existing astigmatism in cataract patients, resulting in significantly improved distance visual outcomes.

ADVANTAGES

The AcrySof IQ lens offers these advantages over traditional intraocular lens implants:

  • Reduction of spherical aberration.
  • Enhanced quality of vision.
  • Improved contrast sensitivity.
  • Filtered blue light protection.
  • Rich, vibrant color perception.

MULTIFOCAL LENSES

If you have trouble seeing things up close and want to ditch your reading glasses, a multifocal lens give a full range of vision.

If you have presbyopia and choose a standard monofocal replacement lens, you’ll likely still have difficulty reading books or using computers without your glasses after cataract surgery. However, if you and your doctor choose a multifocal lens, you may not have to wear glasses again after surgery.

Multifocal Premium Lens Implants

AcrySof® IQ PanOptix™ IOL are multifocal threefocal lenses which offer the latest advances in vision technology. They are designed to enhance your lifestyle by providing clear vision at near, intermediate and far distances.

It’s called “The Next-Generation Trifocal” because it is designed to provide correction at all three distances.

These intraocular lens are designed to provide you with clear vision for near (40 cm), intermediate (60 cm), and far (100 cm and beyond) distances without glasses. Because AcrySof® IQ PanOptix™ IOL helps with all 3 distances, is sometimes called a “trifocal” or “multifocal”.

With optimum visibility in all lighting conditions and reliable UV and blue light filters, the PanOptix® lens truly allows for flexible transitioning in all day-to-day functions, such as using a computer, outdoor activities, or reading a newspaper.

This technology, besides the high biocompatible patented material AcrySof™ proven in more than 100 million implants in the world, also has the unique ENLIGHTEN (Enhanced LIGHT Energy) technology that optimizes the amount of light that gets to the retina, which results in better quality images in different lights conditions in the environment.

The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® Lens, in contrast with other trifocal lenses, has 3 added power that allow vision to be more natural in the different ranges of visual distance. The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® Lens is designed so that the IOL adapts in a more natural way in the patient.

The AcrySof IQ PanOptix and the AcrySof IQ PanOptix Toric lenses are high technology trifocal lenses, which were approved for commercial use in Europe.

They are the latest generation in intraocular lenses.
